Greetings! I've decided to start a FanPost series based off of my previous 50 Random Facts posts. That last article took me almost a month to write, so I've decided to cut it down to 20, but based on certain topics of relevance. And with most Sens talk currently surrounding Mike Hoffman's contract negtiations, I present to you.. 20 Random Facts: Mike Hoffman Edition!Let's begin!1: Hoffman was picked in the fifth round (130th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He leads all players chosen in that round in goals and points. Other notable players chosen in the same round are Roman Horak (127th), Gabriel Bourque (132nd) and Marcus Kruger (149th). Phil Varone was also drafted that round at 147th. 2: In fact, Hoffman is the only player drafted outside the top 100 to have over 100 career points Artem Zub Bodysuit. He also leads the draft class in goals amongst player with under 200 games of NHL experience. 3: To take it even further, Hoffman has more goals AND less games played than 40% of 2009 first round picks. On average, he's played 70 less games than the average first rounder of that year. 4: Hoffman's one of only nine 130th overall picks to play at least one game in the NHL. He's already 4th in goals and points, but ranks first in goals- and points-per-game. Other notable players include Kyle Calder, Mike Johnson, Larey Platey, and Connor Hellebuyck (the only other current player). 5: Drew Doughty was born exactly two weeks after Mike Hoffman. 6: At one point, Hoffman was sent down to the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL. He managed to get three assists in four games, before being recalled to Binghamton. He played an NHL game the following season. 7: Hoffman ranks 18th in all-time P/GP for the Drummondville Voltigeurs (minimum 100 GP), behind players like Daniel Briere and Derick Brassard, and ahead of players like Sean Couturier and Ondrej Palat. He also ranks second all-time for the Saint John Sea Dogs (although he only played 56 games), only behind Charlie Coyle and ahead of players like Jonathan Huberdeau, Tomas Jurco and Thomas Chabot. 8: Hoffman only scored a single goal in 19 games during Binghamton's 2011 run to the Calder Cup. 9: Hoffman has made the QMJHL first all-star team twice (2009 and 2010). He's one of six Senators draftees to receive the honours, with the others being Franis Perron (2016), Simon Lajeunesse (2000), Michel Periard (2000), Mathieu Chouinard (1999), and Alexandre Daigle (1993). Players named to the same teams as Hoffman include Dmitri Kulikov, Jake Allen and David Savard. He's one of only ten players who've been named to the team twice, in the same club as Sidney Crosby, Kris Letang and Jonathan Drouin. 10: He was also named to the CHL's second all-star team in 2010. Other notables from that team include Martin Jones, Tyson Barrie and Taylor Hall. 11: The accolades continued to pile up for The Hoff in 2010. He also received the award for most sportsmanlike player in the Q (oddly enough called the Frank J https://www.ottawafansstore.com/Claude_Giroux_Bodysuit-541. Selke Trophy), and the QMJHL MVP award. 12: The AHL first all-star team also welcomed Hoffman in 2014. Oddly enough, that team was the first since 1995 to be comprised completely of players chosen in an NHL entry draft. 13: Hoffman's one of two players from Kitchener, Ontario to go to the AHL all-star game. The other is Dennis Wideman in 2005. 14: Hoffman ranks fourth in career P/GP among active players named Mike. Ribeiro and Richards own spots numbers 1 2, and Mike Green barely edges out Hoffman for the third spot, ahead by only 0. 001 P/GP. 15: Nobody has ever exactly replicated Hoffman's 2015-16 season (29-30-59 in 78 GP), but Hoffman's 2014-15 season (27-21-48 in 79 GP) has been exactly replicated twice. The first time was by Bill Gardner in 1983-84 on Chicago, and seconded by Gilles Hamel in 1986-87 on Winnipeg. 16: Some close replications of his 2015-16 season include Steve Tambellini in 1981-82 (29-30-59 in 79 GP), Steven Payne in 1983-84 (28-31-59 in 78 GP) and Donald Audette in 1993-94 (29-30-59 in 77 GP). 17: ICYMI: Mike Hoffman seemed to be the only one trying to play fancy in the final shootout at the 2015 NHL All-Star skills competition in Columbus.
